The phenomenal Cello & Piano Duo Emmanuel Lopez, Cello & Denise Parr-Scanlin, Piano presents the third concert of the FASO 2017-2018 Concert Season on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at 7:30 pm.

lopez headshotEmmanuel Lopez has spent the last twenty-five years as a member of the highly acclaimed Harrington String Quartet and as the Periman Endowed Distinguished Artist Chair of Violoncello at West Texas A&M University School of Music.  As a recording artist, Lopez was nominated for a Grammy Award on Delos’ Bach/Bachianas with soprano Arlene Auger and the Yale Cellos. For Delos, he recorded Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations for cell and orchestra with the Paraiba Symphony under the direction of Eleazar de Carvalho and also received critical acclaim for his recording of Samuel Jones’ Cello Sonata with pianist Denise Parr-Scanlin on the Naxos label.

dparrscanlin headshotDenise Parr-Scanlin is a Professor of Music at West Texas A&M University. In addition to a busy schedule as a music educator, she is an active performer. She has presented solo and chamber music recitals in France at the Festival des Arcs, the Fondation des Etats-Unis, and the American Church in Paris. In 2015 she was invited to return to Paris for a solo recital and also presented a recital on the Emmanuel International Concert Series in London. She has been a guest artist with the Atlanta Woodwind Quintet, Collage Chamber Ensemble of Houston, Chamber Music Amarillo, and the faculty chamber ensembles of the Lutheran Summer Music Festival in Minnesota and Iowa: the Movere’ Wind Quintet, and the Omega String Quartet. She has also presented recitals in Illinois, Texas, Oregon, and Washington with soprano Kerry Walters. Dr. Parr-Scanlin has adjudicated for numerous piano contests and festivals including the Texas Young Artist Competition, South Carolina, Georgia, and Texas Music Teachers Associations, and has twice been invited to adjudicate at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.
